The halfway point

Well I’m surprised I made it this far!

It looks absolutely terrible, but we have a UI that allows control over the characters using our custom language (although only the MOVE command works currently lol)

It took a while to figure out how I wanted to do control flow, and although I did basically choose the simplest option I could think of (a single conditional and a GOTO) that part didn’t actually bother me at all.

I don’t believe the language interpreter will be difficult to finish up, but what will take a ton of time is puzzle and level design. Having read “Zach-like” [the book] I am intimately aware of how good puzzles are designed and certainly didn’t give that enough thought before starting this jam, so we’ll probably wrap the first iteration with just one or two really simple, straightforward levels.

Choosing the chalk-on-blackboard and transparent asset style made the whole art creation process a breeze though, I was able to put together visuals and maps with Krita and Tiled far faster than I possibly could have without those tools.

As I’m out over the weekend, I managed to rope in gmc1322 to the project to help finish it up! Perhaps we’ll have something playable by submission time, honestly more than I expected to accomplish considering I’m working full time during the jam.
